The Narcotic Drug and Law Enforcement Unit of Phuentshogling Police Station has detained a Bhutanese, 19, and an Indian, 28. The men were apprehended for possessing controlled substances. They were apprehended yesterday afternoon.
According to the police, after a tip-off from an informer, at Rinchendhing check-post, they carried out a thorough checking of the bus in which the 19-year-old suspect was traveling. Under his seat, police recovered a packet. The accused, a student of one the private schools in Thimphu, confessed to the crime. He said it was worth about Nu. 5,500.
He said the Indian national at the bus terminal handed over the packet to him.
The police immediately deployed a team at the bus terminal where the Indian man was also arrested. Both tested positive for substance abuse.
While the accused said that the substance was for self-consumption, police, looking at the quantity said, it could be for sale. The case is still under investigation.
