Tsirang Dzongkhag is favoured by many people for its suitable climatic condition. It is also known for its organic vegetables and poultry products. But, the Dzongkhag has not been able to attract many tourists. According to the business community, the Dzongkhag has potential to promote eco-tourism due to its rich bio-diversity.
In a meeting with the Economic Affairs Minister, Khandu Wangchuk, the business community asked how the government is planning to promote tourism in the Dzongkhag. The Minister said Tsirang has potential to become a tourist destination in the future.
“Firstly we can promote bird watching, and then when the Sunkosh project comes up it will bring lots of tourist through adventurous activities like boating. We are expecting to bring in more than 100,000 tourists by next year. So we can promote off-season tourist in the Dzongkhags like Tsirang,” said Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk.
Issues like promoting floriculture and establishment of cottage industries were also discussed.
