The wildlife rescue team rescued and safely released a common leopard, an endangered specie, into the wild, yesterday. It was caught in a trap, set up by a villager of Umling Gewog in Sarpang Dzongkhag.
These foresters had come all the way from Thimphu to rescue the leopard. The trap was set up to prevent wild boar, deer and rabbit from attacking the villager’s crop.
It is not known when the leopard fell into the trap but villagers found it tapped and unconscious on Sunday morning.
The male leopard weighs 65 kilogram and measures 2.3 feet in height.
The team leader of the wildlife rescue team based in Thimphu said it is an endangered animal and needs protection.
