Monggar, Lhuentse and Trashigang will soon be able to provide mouth-watering delicacies to the residents very soon. About 20 participants from these districts were given the recipe for baking delicious cakes and pastries and preparing food items. The participants including hoteliers and bakery shop owners attended a two-week long training programme in Monggar recently.
Thirty-five–year-old Sangay Galey from Lhuentse is among the participants who attended the training programme in Monggar. An Assistant Manager in an entertainment centre in Monggar town, he now plans to open a home-based burger shop in Monggar town.
“There are few bakery shops in Monggar town. But we don’t find burger shops out here. And I find a large population in Monggar and am thinking of doing a home delivery based burger business in Monggar,” he said.
Besides bakery and confectionary, the labour ministry is providing such training programmes on advanced cooking and western garment tailoring in five districts across the country. Bhutan Institute of Tourism and Hospitality is implementing the training programme.
“It’s critically focused on performance and increasing the productivity of the existing employees of the bakery and their owners. So after completing this training, our trainees will be able to reskill and upscale their capabilities and provide a variety of products in the market,” said Naw Raj Biswa, the Trainer from Bhutan Institute of Tourism and Hospitality.
During the training programme, participants learnt how to process more than 20 items of bakery, confectionery and food items.
“I have purchased equipment to bake cake and bread while attending the training. So after finishing the training, I will produce different bakery items that I have learnt during the training programme,” said Tashi Penjor, a Participant.
“In the coming days, I have a plan to add dessert to the menu. Right now we don’t serve dessert,” said Deki, also a participant.
“We learnt how to process different bread items like baguette bread and challah bread. We have also learnt how to process different cake items like vanilla cake, chocolate cake, muffin and red velvet cakes,” another participant added.
Similar training will be conducted in Samdrup Jongkhar, Gelephu and Paro as well.
