With over a hundred thousand population Thimphu Dzongkhag records the highest crime rate of 55.8 percent. The records also show that Thimphu has the highest illegal drug transaction cases within 2009 to 2012.
With and aim to educate and provide safety, a community police centre was launched at Babese, today. With this, Thimphu now has four community police centres.
The centre will function as a mini-police station and handle cases related to women and children, and narcotic drugs cases.
The center will also respond to incidents such as accident, burglary and fire outbreak among others.
It is being initiated to help the Royal Bhutan Police tackle the root cause of crime, and to deliver timely services to the community.
