In the ongoing Thimphu League, table toppers Thimphu City FC extended their unbeaten run with a win against Thimphu FC. While the leaders marched on, FC Tertons continued their dismal run in the league, losing yet again.
In a match where Thimphu FC had to win if they were to keep their title chances alive, they were left chasing shadows by Thimphu City FC. Karma Shedrup Tshering of Thimphu City scored two goals to win the match for his team.
In the previous match on Saturday, FC Tertons was thrashed yet again. This time, the U-19 National Team running riot, scoring 11 goals in the process. Captain Nima Tshering bagged five goals in a five star display by the young national side.
In Sunday’s encounter, a lack of defensive concentration saw Drukpol concede in the opening 18 seconds of the match. Drukpol never recovered from the early setback, losing two-nil.
The evening encounter on Sunday saw mid-table teams High Quality United and Drukstars put up an entertaining match for about 100 spectators that gathered at the Changlimithang.
High Quality United did not live up to their team name as Captain Kencho Tobgay of Drukstars scored two goals inflicting a three-one defeat on them.
With just few matches remaining in the league, relegation to the ‘B’ division looks imminent for bottom placed team FC Tertons. Drukpol, the U-19 National Team and Druk United will look to avoid the drop as well.
Transport United looks likely team to pose some threat to runaway leaders, Thimphu City who is sitting comfortably at the top spot. The top three teams will be promoted to the upcoming national league.
