The Minster of Works and Human Settlement introduced the Tenancy Amendment Bill of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2014 at the National Council, today.
The amendment bill is expected to address several issues that the previous act had failed to tackle.
One of the biggest complaints against the Tenancy Act 2004 was the lack of an effective system and penalties when provisions of the act were violated by either the landlord or tenant.
Another complaint was also that no single agency from the MoWHS or the local governments implemented the Act nor took accountability.
The Minister for Works and Human Settlement, Dorji Choden says the new Tenancy Bill 2014 with multiple amendments to address all the concerns.
The National Council will continue the discussion on Monday.
