Gasa dzongkhag was cutoff from the rest of the nation for about a week following a major roadblock in Gathana. The road was, however, cleared at around 6:30 pm yesterday and is now open to traffic.
The roadblock was huge, aggravated by the incessant rain that brought down more slides. The old mule track was maintained, so that people could
bypass the roadblock.
The Khamay Gup, Karma Tshering, said clearing the roadblock could only be temporary. He said slight shower in the area may trigger a landslide again.
Last year, massive landslide in the area had cut off Gasa from rest of the dzongkhags for about three months.
Residents fear that they may have to endure similar fate if it continues to rain.
Meanwhile, the residents are replenishing basic commodities, in case the road gets blocked again.
