Ball Blasters, a women’s team from Trongsa, has won the women’s open volleyball championship in Thimphu.
In the finals played yesterday, they defeated team Trashigang Sports Association.
The team took home the winning trophy and a cash prize of Nu 35,000.
“We did not expect to reach finals. We are happy we won the championship,” Phuntsho Choden, the team captain of Ball Blasters, said.
The Trashigang Sports Association was awarded a cash prize of Nu 25,000.
The three-day open championship saw 20 women’s volley team take part in it, which according to the Bhutan Volleyball Federation, is the highest till date.
The federation is hopeful of the championship attracting the same number of women teams in future too.
