Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) says they plan to employ around 3000 Bhutanese in tourism sector each year. This year, the council also celebrated world tourism day 2019 with the theme “Tourism and jobs: a better future for all”.

Tourism in Bhutan has emerged as a leading industry which has contributed to the economy of the country. Today around 30,000 Bhutanese are employed in the tourism sector.  It generates the second largest employment after civil servants. The sector plans to create more jobs for Bhutanese in future.

“It can be in the form of guides, in the hotel industry, it can be in tour operation, it can be in transport. So there are so many avenues actually. In fact, we feel that tourism touches all sections of the population. So there is a job in tourism everywhere,” said Dorji Dhradhul, the Director-General for TCB.

With community-based tourism and eco-tourism, it is even expected to involve people in rural areas as well.
