For the first time, a group of students from Taba Dramtoe Lower Secondary School in Samtse is in the capital for an exposure and attend a training on taekwondo. The Bhutan Taekwondo Federation (BTF) is providing the week-long training.
Master Dema Wangchuk of BTF said the students from Taba Dramtoe have been practicing taekwondo for the last more than five years. But said they have never been outside their Dzongkhag. “They have not seen what is demonstrations, self defense and what are the aerobic dances.”
He added the students will be trained on self defense and basic movements of taekwondo and aerobic dance of taekwondo. They will undergo trainings along with Thimphu students.
A teacher of Taba Dramtoe LSS, Sonam Penjor said the school does not have equipment to train the students well. “Here, students learn more as they are trained by experts.”
And for the students, the trip came as a blessing. “I am extremely happy as I am visiting Thimphu for the first time and meeting with new friends. We are getting many new trainings here,” said Dorji Tshering. “Compared to my village there are more people here,” another student Doi Tshering said.
Besides taekwondo, other sports will also be introduced to the students as well.
Taba Dramtoe LSS is one of the remote schools in Samtse. It is located 65 kilometres away from Samtse town. The group will leave Thimphu on Sunday.
