Strong windstorm, last evening and earlier this morning, wreaked havoc in many Dzonkhags, across the country. The worst affected dzongkhags are Haa, Paro and Punakha. The storm blew off roofs of schools, teachers’ quarters, Lhakhangs and some Gewog centres.
In Haa, over 170 houses have been damaged. In Paro, two Gewogs, Dogar and Shaba were worst affected. Roofs of 92 houses, including that of a school and a Lhakhang, were blown off in Dogar. In Shaba Gewog, roofs of around 50 households and four Lhakhangs were blown off.
Our reporter in Punakha, Choni Dema, says, of the 11 Gewogs, Kabesa is the most affected. Roofs of around 40 houses have been blown off. Japchu Karmo Nunnery and kitchen of Thinleygang Lhakhang have also been damaged.
Tang Gewog in Bumthang was also affected. The storm damaged Namkha and Ugyen Cholling Lhakhangs and a house.
In Dagana, around 19 houses were affected by the windstorm and 10 houses Samtse.
In Kangpara Gewog under Trashigang 19 houses have been affected.
In Chukha, under Chapcha Gewog, roofs of some 14 houses have been blown away. The hostel of Chapcha Middle Secondary School and a warden’s quarter have also been damaged. The staff quarter for the Rinchenling community primary school have also been destroyed.
