The world of technology has become a way forward and gradually Bhutan is also becoming a part of it. To celebrate Bhutan’s journey into Space and to garner interest from the youth, a Space Week is observed in the country every year since last year. The Department of Information Technology and Telecom (DITT) initiates various program during the week to create opportunities for young people to indulge in STEM education.
The unveiling of the space animation series and a children’s book during the celebration of Bhutan Space Week was one of the ways to reach out and promote space science and technology in the country.
Since the launch of Bhutan’s first satellite, Bhutan-1 in 2018, it garnered a lot of interest. But there were no initiatives directly targeted to enhance that curiosity. Bhutan Space Week is a platform to reach out and educate people especially youths about space science and technology.
The space-themed animation and children’s book are some of the activities this year covering topics such as constellation, astronomy, solar system and spacecraft.
“The target audience for these two initiatives are primary school children. Primarily ages five to twelve, so this is a very fun and educational way of putting space science and technology out to young children. We’re not only trying to feed children with facts and figures but we want to do that in a very fun and exciting way,” said Yeshi Choden, a Satellite Engineer.
The children’s book is freely distributed to all the primary schools in the country and the space animation series is also available on various social media platforms.
