Having access to a borewell machine, Gelegphu Thromde hopes to turn the drinking water scarcity as the story of the past. The Thromde is now exploring more number of borewell drinking water sources around the town.
Three months back, the Gelegphu Thromde received the borewell machines which were officially handed to the Thromde by the Ministry of the Works and Human Settlement yesterday. The borewell machine is also one of the pledges of the government to ensure round the clock drinking water supplies.
Gelegphu Thromde has been facing drinking water scarcity with only two sources of drinking water from the Passangchu and water treatment plant at Mao River. These two sources cater to the ever-growing population amidst ongoing constructions and frequent disruption at source during the monsoon.
However, the Thrompon is now optimistic and looking forward to a brighter future of making drinking water available round the clock in the Thromde with the help of the borewell machine.
“Through the help of the Ministry and the borewell machines, we have already done with two borewells. One is smoothly functioning in the hospital are benefiting the residents nearby too. Another we have already done with drilling and we are coming with a reservoir tank. We have already floated the tender,” said Tika Ram Kafley, the Gelegphu Thrompon.
“Once the reservoir tank is ready, the area covering Tashiling as well as the new workshop area will reap the benefits. The present line which connects Tashiling and the workshop area will be further diverted where there is lean water supply system and with this, we are hopeful that people will have easy access to the water.”
The Thrompon also added that they will work out to send the borewell machines on hire to its neighbouring Dzongkhags, institutions and organisation on minimal charges to meet fuel, maintenance and operators’ cost. However, private individuals may not get access to the services for now because the Thromde is yet to discuss it with the relevant agencies.
“Gelegphu will cater to neighbouring regions as well. We have already received a request from Phuentshogling Thromde for the machine. Like that maybe agencies from other Dzongkhags of Tsirang, Dagana, and Zhemgang might request to avail the services,” the Thrompon added.
The borewell machines are worth Nu 20 M with a capacity to dig about 600-metre depth.
