The Health Ministry has detected six new HIV positive cases over the past six months. This takes the total number of detected HIV cases in the country to 297. The number of HIV positive cases detected this year to 27.
Of the six new cases, five are female. They are between 9 to 39 years old. Health Ministry has so far detected 297 HIV positive cases since the first one in 1993. Of the total figure, 51 percent are female.
Of 297, 54 HIV infected people have died which means there are 229 people living with HIV in the country.
According to the press release from the Health Ministry, the people living with HIV are between 15 and 49 of age. This age bracket is usually the highly reproductive age group.
The medical records show that about 26 percent of detected HIV positive cases are found out through voluntary counselling and testing.
