Singapore’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, arrives in the country tomorrow for a three day official visit.This is the first visit to Bhutan by a Foreign Minister from Singapore.
The minister is visiting Bhutan at the invitation of his Bhutanese counterpart Lyonpo Damcho Dorji. He will be accompanied by Singaporean Ambassador to Bhutan and the country’s senior officials from Foreign Affairs Ministry.
While in the country, the Singaporean Foreign Minister will call on Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay. Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan will also meet Bhutanese foreign minister and other cabinet ministers.
The visit will see the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bhutan’s Labour and Human Resources Ministry and Singapore’s ITE Education Services on collaboration in the field of technical and vocational education and training.
The Foreign Minister will also donate books to the National Library and Archives of Bhutan while in Thimphu.
A news release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the first visit by a Singaporean Foreign Minister will greatly contribute towards further strengthening of the close ties of friendship, cooperation and understanding between the leaders and people of the two countries.
The visit is also expected to provide an opportunity to explore more avenues for collaboration between Bhutan and Singapore.
The diplomatic relation between the two countries was established in September 2002.
