For the first time, Bhutan will be participating in the 10 meter air rifle shooting event in the London Olympics later this year. Kunzang Choden is the first woman and the only Bhutanese to participate in a shooting event.
Kunzang Choden, 28, from Thimphu, developed a passion for shooting only at the age of 22. She is mother of two children. She is being trained rigorously for four hours every day. She said she feels proud and fortunate to participate in the Olympics.
Although this is her first time participating in the Olympics, she has already represented Bhutan in some of the Asian Air Gun Championships. The Coach, Dorji Phurba, said that she would perform well. “Winning and losing is part of game but as a coach what I would like her to perform well.”
Being a mother she said it is not easy. “Since I have to look after my kids, it is very difficult for me to adjust. So I have to manage as I am very much interested to participate.” But right now the only thing on her mind is the training for the Olympics.
