Services of 42 employees of the former Royal Education Council, including the Centenary Institute of Education in Yongphula are to be discontinued from October 1, this year.
The Royal Education Council issued a notification to the employees yesterday. The notification does not specify the reasons for discontinuing the services of the employees. It however states that the notification is issued following an internal Royal Education Council Management Meeting held on August 31, 2015.
The employees of Centenary Institute of Education in Yongphla said they are shocked and disheartened. Currently, there are 16 employees working in the institute. Most of them are worried about their future, as the notification does not specify or guarantee employment after their services are discontinued after a month.
The Centenary Institute for Education was established in 2012 as an in-service education facility for continuous professional development for teachers. Around Nu 15 M was spent to establish the office. It is also not clear what will happen to the institute and its facilities, which was established in former army camp.
