The task force in Phuentshogling was planning for another round of mass screening in the town to initiate further unlocking of the lockdown. It was supposed to begin from tomorrow, however, the Technical Advisory Group of the Health Ministry recommended not to conduct the mass screening since positive cases are still being detected in the community.
For now, the mass screening plan is postponed. Officials said the dates for the mass screening will be announced soon.
Earlier today, three drivers at the Mini Dry Port (MDP) in Phuentshogling tested positive for COVID-19. They are involved in transporting essentials from the MDP to Sorchen. Following the positive cases, nearly 30 loaders at the MDP showed flu-like symptoms. However, they all tested negative for now. As a safety measure and to assess the risk, the import of essentials is suspended for time being.
The remaining drivers and loaders are being tested today.
According to the health ministry, 17 cases of COVID-19 were detected from Phuentshogling in the last 24 hours. While three are the drivers from the MDP, six are front line workers and eight are contacts of earlier cases.
