To ease unemployment problem in the country and also to enhance human resource capacity in the health sector, the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources will send 168 Bhutanese students to India. The class XII passed out students will pursue three and a half years training in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from August to September, this year. The students will be placed in five different nursing colleges in Southern India.
The Labour Minister, Dorji Wangdi, said with this, the ministry will achieve the 10th Five Year Plan’s target of training 500 nurses. 230 were trained by the Ministry of Health. “This training will be the second pilot project to send students aboard for work, like the Thai teachers recruitment,” said Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi. The first batch of 100 students was sent in 2011.
The project is funded by the Government of India. The financial cost for the project is estimated at about Nu.129.5 million.
