After four days, the search for the six missing expatriate workers was called off today afternoon. The search and rescue team combed the whole area in the last four days without success after the Wangchhu bridge along the Damchhu-Haa road collapsed on Tuesday taking with it nine workers who were on the bridge during the incident.
The search and rescue team sent three kayaks around 22 kilometres downstream but could not find the missing workers on Thursday. The team then deployed an excavator on the same day suspecting the workers to be buried under the debris of the bridge in the river. The missing persons could not be located even after excavation.
The search and the rescue team comprised of DeSuup, Army, Police and officials from Project DANTAK and Paro dzongkhag. Until further notice from Project DANTAK, the search and rescue mission has been called off after today.
The 204-metre long Wangchhu bridge along the Damchhu-Haa road collapsed at around 4:30 pm on the 9th of February.
