The SAARC Development Fund (SDF) Secretariat is now looking to support the development of micro, small and medium enterprises in the country.
This was revealed yesterday at the 34th SAARC Charter Day celebrations held in Thimphu.
SAARC Charter Day is observed annually on 8th December. The day marks the signing of the SAARC Charter in 1985 by the Leaders of SAARC countries at the first SAARC Summit held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
“We are going to launch two new programs, which include funding of the micro, small and medium enterprises for the small entrepreneurs in Bhutan,” Dr Sunil Motiwal, the CEO of SDF, said.
Bhutan is among the two SAARC countries receiving financial assistance from SAARC Development Fund.
“We also have some other future plans for Bhutan, which includes funding of some of the bigger projects in the areas of agriculture, energy, transport connectivity, tourism and other new areas related to renewable energy. We remain fully committed to the socio-economic growth of Bhutan,” the SDF’s CEO added.
