In a move to enhance the beauty of their community, officials of Sarpang district administration and community members have decided to extend their weekly social work efforts. Usually, they would dedicate half a day every Friday after lunch to beautification and cleaning activities around Sarpang Tar. However, starting this month, they have opted for a full-day commitment, temporarily closing offices on Fridays. This will continue until the completion of the project.
The initiative kicked off with the creation of flowerbeds along the roadsides for planting flowers. The primary goal of this temporary full-day commitment on Fridays is to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the recently completed 4.5-kilometer road network at Sarpang Tar. This effort includes landscaping and comprehensive cleaning.
Speaking about this initiative, Sarpang Dzongrab Karma Wangdi highlighted the importance of a more comprehensive approach to beautifying the community and maintaining public spaces. This decision was made following consultations with various stakeholders.
“The entire road network at Sarpang Tar has been blacktopped. We have decided to work a full day on Fridays in consultation with civil servants, local business owners and representatives of various agencies to initiate flower plantation not only in Sarpang Tar but also in Shechyamthang and Gelephu to keep our road network clean,” said Karma Wangdi, Sarpang Dzongrab.
Officials said that people have already been informed about the decision. If any urgent work that needs public service delivery occurs on Fridays, the officials would make themselves available.
Meanwhile, Sheychamthang town’s representative said such community-driven initiatives not only improve physical infrastructure but also foster a sense of ownership and collaboration among officials and the community.
“If we take care of our town by performing beautification and cleaning tasks on our own, it would have a positive impression on the visitors. This way we could encourage more people to visit our town,” said Ngawang Phuntsho, Shechyamthang town Tshogpa.
The full-day social work collaboration between officials and community members aims not only to beautify the area but also to bring the community closer together. The objective is to create a cleaner, greener, and more harmonious living environment for all Sarpang residents.
The district administration expects to engage local community members, ensuring their long-term commitment and active participation in maintaining the beauty of their surroundings.
