His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck graced the consecration ceremony of a 200-bedded quarantine facility in Sarpang today.
His Royal Highness acknowledged the army, Desuups, and trainees from the Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute who constructed the facility . They constructed the facility in about 45 days with less than half of estimated budget of Nu 46 M.
Similarly, a 200-bedded quarantine facility in Samdrup Jongkhar is also complete and was handed over to the dzongkhag administration. The facility will be used to quarantine foreign workers. It will mitigate the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
Dasho Pema Chewang, the Chairman of the Eastern COVID-19 Task Force said the facility will benefit the contractors. “Many construction activities are at a halt currently. Now, I think all the work will go well.”
The facility will also address the shortage of quarantine facilities for Bhutanese returning from abroad and routine travellers between COVID-19 high risk and low-risk areas. Besides, it will also be used to quarantine primary contacts during community outbreaks.
The quarantine facility is equipped with internet, television, and other facilities. Construction of a similar quarantine facility is also ongoing in Samtse and Phuentshogling.
The government began construction of quarantine facilities in the southern region in July this year upon the command of His Majesty The King.
