The condition of the road leading to Samdrup Choling dungkhag office in Samdrup Jongkhar is in need of repair. The bad road condition is causing inconvenience to both commuters and residents of Thangchu Genpa village in Phuntshothang Gewog as the road passes through the village.
Filled with potholes, even a bolero pickup truck finds it difficult to ply on some stretch of the road.
Most part of the road need resurfacing. The problem doesn’t end here. The residents are troubled by the dust pollution caused by the bad road condition.
Due to the dust pollution, Ugyen Tenzin, a resident of Thangchu Genpa village spreads water on the road near his house. And it is his every day task.
“The entire house becomes dusty when vehicles travel along the bad road. We are facing lots of problems. The bad road is causing inconveniences to both motorists and pedestrians,” said Ugyen Tenzin.
“The bad road is causing many problems. Firstly, the houses near the road are facing dust problem and secondly small vehicles cannot use the road. The road condition is becoming worse,” added Daley, another resident of Thangchu Genpa.
Pema Seldon, another resident of the village said people residing nearby the road fall ill more often due to the dust pollution. “Moreover, there is a sharp turn where vehicles get stuck. The road is causing problems,” added Pema Seldon.
Residents say the road condition has remained poor for three years. Although the stretch is just about 800 meters, they say the road needs to be well maintained since it leads to Samdrupcholing dungkhag office and court.
According to Samdrup Choling Dungkhag Administration, about Nu 4 M has been allocated to resurface the road. The work will be awarded soon and is expected to complete by March next year.
