Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde has launched an ambitious beautification plan aimed at transforming the town into a cleaner and greener space. The initiative, announced yesterday, will involve 35 agencies, each assigned specific areas within the town to maintain and enhance with flowers and plants.
Under the plan, the thromde will distribute various flowers and plants to the agencies, with a target of planting over 800 evergreen species throughout Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde within the next two months.
The thromde’s environment officer said that the agencies will be responsible for maintenance of their designated areas and for ensuring the aesthetic appeal of public spaces, streets, and landmarks.
“The booklet is a guiding framework for all agencies as it is based on a reward-based mechanism where the top three agencies will be rewarded annually based on the evaluation done by the monitoring team every two months,” said Bhagat Pokherl, environment officer of Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde.
The environment officer added that the agencies have to carry out cleaning and beautification work in their respective area once a week and it will be strictly monitored.
The top three agencies will be rewarded on the 5th of June, annually, commemorating World Environment Day.
“There are two teams, monitoring team and a coordination team, the coordination team weekly evaluates the work done by agencies and the monitoring team will evaluate every two months, and at the end, we will come up with the top three,” said Bhagat Pokherl, environment officer.
According to the Thromde, the move comes as part of a broader initiative aimed at revitalising urban spaces, fostering community pride, and promoting environmental stewardship within the thromde.
