The country’s central bank, the Royal Monetary Authority (RMA) is considering opening up a new Rupee exchange counter to add to the existing facility being provided by the banks. The new governor of the central bank, Dasho Penjore who took office recently said, the idea was to make rupee more available for people. The central bank is also considering increasing the limit of rupee withdrawals.
He said the current level of rupee reserve would be sufficient enough for a new exchange facility. He said depletion of the reserve might not occur soon or in huge amounts. Rupee reserve has today reached 20B while dollar reserve was recorded at US$ 833M.
Dasho Penjore added it was important that the people should be mindful that the facility would be provided only for legitimate purposes.
