Without proper restoration works after mining, many mining areas were damaged by landslide and soil erosion. The Department of Geology and Mines have now made it mandatory for all the mining companies to do proper restoration works after the mining is completed.
“Once the mining is over we have to look for the soil stability, after the soil stability is done they have to make walls, drainage and plantation,” said Sonam, Mining Inspector, Samtse.
From now on it will be mandatory for a mining company to submit the details of restoration works that will be carried out after the mining in the feasibility study report that it submits to the department. Accordingly the company will have to do the restoration works failing which, the company will be penalised.
