If the number of years is anything to go by, it will take another seven years to finish constructing the 10 kilometre farm road at Resa in Monggar. In last three years, only about three kilometres of the road has been complete, much to the exasperation of the villagers.
Resa farm road connects to the nearest farm road at Kalapang which in turn is connected to Gyalpoizhing-Nganglam high way.
The major stumbling block, according to Resa-Kalapang Tshogpa, Kinley, is the rugged terrain. “There is enough government support but nothing much can be done when we are confronted with rocky cliff.”
The Central Machinery Unit’s Excavator Operator, Tshewang, said huge cliffs deter their otherwise smooth pace of work.
Acute shortages of labourers and sometimes labourers not turning up for the work have also hampered the progress of the construction.
Some people involved in the construction also said lack of quality equipment and long bureaucratic process involved have also slowed down the progress.
“The store tells us that they cannot supply us the equipment we want, saying they have to depend on quotations and cannot buy them directly,” said Tshewang.
So far, over Nu.7 million has been spent for the construction.
Saling Gup, Sonam Yeshey, said they have kept the majority from their limited budget for the farm road.
The farm road is estimated to cost about Nu.80 million.
Resa is one of the most remote villages in Monggar. It is a day’s walk from the nearest motor able road at Gyalpoizhing. The village has about 32 households.
