Reading habit among the children of Chhuzaggang gewog in Sarpang dzongkhag is picking up. Thanks to READ Bhutan, an NGO committed to empowering communities with knowledge and information.
It’s been more than eight months since the READ Bhutan centre in Chhuzaggang was established. People of all ages, who are literate avail themselves of the facility. The centre has a library, ICT, Women and Children’s sections.
The librarian of the centre, Karma Lhamo, said students mostly come during the weekend.
“While class seven and above students don’t need guidance, we try to teach small children whatever we know. There is also TV room for children to watch but they spend most of the time in the library room only.”
Apart from school children NFE learners, school dropouts and a few monks also frequent the centre.
The centre is managed by the Chhuzaggang Agricultural Farmers Cooperative and is determined to help empower its communities with the support provided by READ Bhutan.
