Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) will request the mobile service providers to deactivate unidentified SIM cards.
During the Superintendent of Police Conference in Thimphu, today, the police officers said the step is to ensure the country’s security.
A few of them said some mobile numbers, even without the owners’ details, are still active.
The conference coordinator, Major Yeshi Lhendup said many people had bought multiple SIM cards even before the police could create awareness on the danger of them being misused.
“The issue still exists. People do not think of national security and buy SIM cards and distribute them to others. This in turn creates problems”.
In the closing ceremony today, the Chief of Police, Colonel Chimi Dorji said non-commissioned officers’ conference will also be held for the first time next year.
