Punakha hospital has been without a Gynecologist for over a year now. The previous Gynecologist from Cuba completed his term and left for Cuba in October, last year.
Punakha’s health workers say in absence of a Gynecologist, it is challenging to attend to pregnancy cases with major complications.
“In case of caesarian, we need a Gynecologist, otherwise, we have to refer such cases to Thimphu National Referral hospital via road which is risky,” a clinical nurse, Kamala Siwakoti said.
The hospital’s medical doctor, Thubten Palzang said delivery cases from Gasa, Wangdue Phodrang, Bumthang, Dagana and Trongsa are brought to Punakha hospital.
A patient attendant, Rinzin from Kabisa Gewog said it would convenient if the hospital has Gynecologist.
The Punakha Hospital Administration has written to the health ministry for a Gynecologist.
