The preliminary hearing for the case concerning a grandmother who is charged over the death of her four-year-old son was held yesterday at the Thimphu district court.

The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has charged the 56-year-old grandmother with involuntary manslaughter.

The body of the boy was recovered from the bank of Wangchhu below Terma Linca on April 28, a day after he went missing.

The OAG said the woman and her grandson attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the Wangchhu. But the river washed away the boy only, while the grandmother was rescued by the staff of Terma Linca.

The OAG also presented the court with a medical report which states the suspect is mentally unsound.

The suspect has given her rebuttal statement today.
