As more development activities take place in the country, Bhutan is simultaneously seeing an increase in domestic demand for energy in household, commercial, and industrial sectors.
The current methodology to determine electricity rates in the country is based on the cost of supply, as per the Electricity Act, 2001 and the Tariff Determination Regulation of 2007.
The revision is an outcome of the decision taken by the Bhutan Power Corporation on 1 October, last year.
While some were fine with the rates, most of the Low Voltage Users expressed their reservations saying they are not happy with the revision.
The Low Voltage Users are mostly ordinary households and the hotels.
