At a time when most parts of the country are connected with high-speed mobile internet connectivity such as 3G and 4G network, some corners in the rural pockets are facing mobile network issues. Parts of Silambi and Gongdue Gewogs in Monggar still do not have a reliable mobile network today.
Daagsa chiwog in Gongdue Gewog is located just near the gewog centre. But locals there have been facing mobile network issues for quite some time. Travelling has become inconvenient without a stable mobile network.
“There is no mobile network connection around Broksa, Thambrang, Sonamthang and Nagor in Silambi Gewog. There is also network issue between Weringla Dungkhag and Yangbari area. The network issue occurs along the cliff, stream and where there is no road connectivity,” said Tenzin, Gongdue,
“When we return home from Monggar town, there is a place called Yadi. After crossing that place we face network problem between Broksa and Thambrang. In case there is a roadblock, a person has to come personally to receive us. There is also network problem along Daagsa and Bogarbi, which has a distance of five-kilometre,” added Tshering.
An official from Bhutan Telecom Limited based in Monggar denied the allegations that there are mobile network issues in Silambi Gewog although he admitted that there are network issues in Gongdue Gewog as there is no network tower in the area today. Bhutan Telecom Limited is currently constructing a tower which is expected to be completed in a few months’ time. The completion of the tower is expected to bring about reliable network connectivity in Gongdue.
Currently, people of Gongdue Gewog receives mobile network from network tower in Pema Gatshel Dzongkhag. Silambi and Gongdue are remote two most remote gewogs in Monggar with more than 6800 population.
