The Phuentshogling Dungkhag Court sentenced the traffic police officer, Karma, for three years imprisonment for accepting bribe and misusing Traffic Infringement Notice.
The verdict says he had accepted a bribe of Nu. 46,000 and a mobile phone worth Nu. 6,500 for letting traffic-violators off the hook.
The court also sentenced a Bhutanese man, Khara Nandan Sharma, and a man of Indian origin, Vishal Bhakdis for bribing Karma. They have been given one year imprisonment each.
Two police constables, Sonam Tshering and Lhaba Drukpa have also been given six months imprisonment each. The court sentenced them for carrying out orders of their superior despite knowing they were wrong.
