With almost all the preparation works completed, the school at Phaduna in Punakha will be ready and handed over to the education ministry tomorrow. About 900 students of classes IX to XII along with 75 teachers and staff from Phuentshogling thromde will reach the newly relocated school on Sunday.
Phaduna, situated along the Punakha-Gasa highway, is about eight kilometres away from Punakha towards Gasa.
Over 170 workers are busy giving the finishing touches. Classrooms, hostels, kitchen and washrooms have been well designed and equipped with all the facilities. The preparation works began last month.
“The entire preparation works here will be completed by 14th of this month. The works are almost complete. And with regard to the water supply and power supply, we do not have any problem,” said Rinchen Samdrup, the deputy chief education officer of Punakha.
The education ministry decided to relocate the students so that their studies are not hampered. The ministry chose Phaduna to accommodate the huge number of students from three schools of Phuentshogling Higher and Middle Secondary Schools and Sonamgang Middle Secondary School. All these different schools will function as one independent boarding school.
“I would say Phaduna School would be comparatively different and advanced compared to other schools in Punakha. For instance, there is a television facility in the dining hall, classrooms are spacious and with a three-storied hostel, there are enough rooms for both boys and girls,” added Rinchen Samdrup.
The ministry has arranged 83 buses to transport the students and teachers. All of them will undergo a two-week quarantine in the school and will begin their classes straight away.
The relocation is expected to cost the government more than Nu 33 M.
