People of Thuenmong-Tokari Chiwog in Tsamang Gewog of Monggar constituency want the winning candidate of the upcoming bye-election to prioritize the construction of a motorable bridge over Kurichhu. Maintenance of farm roads and addressing the acute drinking water shortage are among other expectations. This was shared during the common forum in Tsamang Gewog on Thursday this week. DNT’s Karma Lhamo and DPT’s Dorji Yuden will contest for the bye-election for Monggar constituency on the 29th of this month.
With no bridge over Kurichhu, farm roads constructed in 2018 to connect the two chiwogs of Tsamang with Monggar-Lhuentse-highway still remains incomplete. Thus, a bridge remains a priority for the people of Tsamang Gewog which they feel will expedite the improvement of farm roads in the gewog.
“We have high expectations from the candidates. We expect the winning candidate to construct a motorable bridge over Kurichhu and also maintain the farm road connecting Dorjilung and Tokari village. Without a water source, we are also facing a drinking water shortage at Serphug Lhakhang. So the candidate must support us in getting adequate drinking water in Serbung Lhakhang,” said Kuenzang Chogyel, a resident of Tsamang Gewog.
“We need a candidate who can maintain the gewog centre road. The blacktopping work was already completed. We now want the candidate to blacktop the farm road in Serbung village,” added Nagsila, another resident.
“Whoever wins the election must connect the farm road by constructing a bridge over Kurichhu. Since we have been facing issues travelling on that farm road, the candidate must maintain the farm road once the winning candidate gets elected,” added Yeshi Thinley, another resident.
Meanwhile, the Department of roads has already conducted a survey and submitted a detailed project report on the construction of a 200 feet bailey suspension bridge over Kurichhu to the works and human settlement ministry.
DNT’s candidate Karma Lhamo’s pledges include setting up Pongchila Domestic Airport in Monggar Gewog and completing the groundwork for the Dorjilung Hydropower Project by 2023.
On the other hand, making Monggar a popular destination and developing Monngar town into a Thromde are among DPT’s candidate Dorji Youden’s pledges.
