The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate of Kanglung-Samkhar-Udzorong Constituency, Norbu Wangchuk, has been reprimanded and warned by the Dzongkhag Election Dispute Settlement Body (DEDSB) in Trashigang. The verdict was passed today.
Norbu Wangchuk was accused by Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) for speaking about party coalition, regionalism and telling people not to attend the DPT meetings. As an evidence, a recording of the Norbu Wangchuk’s speech to the people was also submitted along with the complaint letter.
The DEDSB has found the allegations to be true. But, however, since the allegation was put by the DPT Dzongkhag Co-ordinator without the candidate’s endorsement and without any other legal evidences, the verdict says, it cannot approve or accept the allegations.
The verdict also says although Norbu Wangchuk should not be penalised as there was no legal evidences, he should face penalties based on his rebuttal statements made to the DEDSB. The DPT Dzongkhag Co-ordinator also failed to submit legal evidences.
Meanwhile, the DPT in Trashigang has also been reprimanded and issued last warning for eavesdropping and spying.
The Chairman of the DEDBS, Dzongda Lungten Dorji, said the Settlement Body had to strike a balance in taking its decision hopping both the parties would improve. He said both the parties have been briefed not to engage in such rivalry and allegation henceforth. Both the parties have also been instructed not to talk about census, land kidu and regionalism.
