Paro Women’s FC have made history by recording probably the biggest win in the country’s football history. The team scored an astonishing 31 goals against their opponents Gelsar United Women’s FC in the ongoing Kelme Women’s National League on Tuesday (10th January). Declared the champions of the competition, Paro Women’s FC will play their final match of the tournament against UA FC on Saturday.
It all started with Gelsar United Women’s FC conceding a goal in the very first minute of the game. Unable to respond to the early strike, it was then raining goals at the Gelephu Academy ground. By the end of the game, Paro Women’s FC thumped Gelsar United Women’s FC by a scoreline of 31-0.
19-year-old Yeshi Bidha alone scored 15 times in the goal fest. The only club that came close to this scoreline were Gelephu Girls’ Academy. They scored 30 goals, with Gelsar United Women’s FC at the receiving end yet again.
For now, Paro women’s FC sits comfortably at the top of the table with 42 points. They are left with only one game which will be played against Ugyen Academy women’s FC.
Meanwhile, Thimphu Women’s FC, the former champions of the tournament sit in second place. With 36 points, it is only a single point that separates them from third-placed Ugyen Academy. Gelsar United Women’s FC remains at the bottom of the table with just one win from 16 games.
With Paro FC men’s team also taking home the title for the BOB Bhutan Premier League this year, this makes Paro FC, the first side to win the national league title in both Men’s and Women’s categories in the same year.
Nine teams from across the country took part in the women’s league this time.
