Paro United FC is through to the finals of the Bhutan Super League 2020 as they defeated Tensung FC 5-3 on penalties yesterday. They will now face High Quality United FC in the finals which will be played on Saturday this weekend.
Eight teams from Thimphu, Paro, Punakha and Phuentshogling took part in the league this time.
Despite losing their first semi-final match to High Quality United FC last week, Tensung FC still got another shot to qualify for the finals of the league. This is considering the recent amendment made by the Bhutan Football Federation in the qualification system to acknowledge the hard work of earning the top two spot in the league table. And this time, it was Paro United FC who stood in between them and the finals.
Both the teams looked confident as they gave their best to break the deadlock as early as possible. However, it was Tensung FC who had their noses in front with a goal in the dying minutes of the first half.
On the other side, the second half saw Paro United FC desperately trying to bounce back into the game. The breakthrough for them only came in the dying minutes of the game as Sunil Rai equalised in the 88th minute with a beautifully finished long-range shot.
With neither team getting the better of another by the end of the 90th minute, the semi-final match went to the dreaded penalty shootout. With a final scoreline of 5-3, Paro United FC defeated Tensung FC on penalties to advance into the finals of the league.
Paro United FC will now face High Quality United FC in the finals of the league on 21st March.
