The National Assembly, after accepting the recommendations passed by the National Council, endorsed the Parliamentary Entitlement Amendment Bill 2014, today.
As recommended by the National Council, the salary of the National Assembly Speaker, Opposition Leader and the NC Chairperson will be equal, as it used to be earlier.
The National Assembly had proposed that its Speaker be paid higher than the Opposition Leader and NC Chairperson.
The Upper House had also rejected another proposal by the Lower House- of making the salary to the MPs equivalent to that of the constitutional post holders. The NC has reasoned saying the salaries should be determined by the pay commission.
National Council had also recommended that a lump sum amount to be provided to the MPs to purchase a vehicle up to 3,000 CC free of customs and sales tax in the beginning of his/her paying the green tax.
The recommendation also went through the Lower House.
Meanwhile, majority in the National Assembly decided to discuss and amend the Jabmi Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan 2003 and Companies Act of Bhutan, 2014 in the next session.
