One of the oldest dairy groups in Trashigang, Pam Medhey Ngamlay Tshogdey is not only functioning successfully but also helps its member in availing loan from its own account. The group was started in 2005.
As soon as the dawn breaks, farmers begin to feed and milk their cows. And there are 48 members in the group owning good breeds of cows.
Besides earning on a monthly basis from the milk, members are benefitted as the group gives loan to its members.
“The loan helps us in meeting the expenditure for our school-going children,” Dupthob Pema, from Pam, Trashigang.
“For now we can avail up to Nu 20,000 and we have to pay back the loan in one year. It is helpful. If we are to avail loan from the banks, we have to put mortgage, in our group loan we don’t have to do it. All we have to do is make a group of 2-3 members,” Tshering Choki, also from Pam, added.
“So far we did not face any challenges in recovering the loans. The amount is Nu 20,000 and every month we get back the instalments with interest,” Pema Wangchuk, the chairperson of Pam Medhey Ngamlay Tshogdey, said.
Besides earning a good income from milk, the group also have a good amount of savings in the bank. And moreover, the market has never been an issue for the group as the group sells its milk in Trashigang town daily.
