March 15 is observed as the World Consumer Rights day globally. The day is observed to promote the basic rights of all consumers and highlight the market abuses and social injustices. The theme this year is ‘Our Money, Our Rights’.
Bhutan joined the rest of the world in consumer protection and is in the process of undertaking various activities that would benefit the consumers. These steps were taken by the country to encourage fair trade practices, improve product quality, highlight consumer’s right and harness benefit to individual consumers as well as the whole community.
The Director General of Department of Trade, Sonam P Wangdi, said the day is aimed at providing fair and justified financial services to the consumers.
The theme this year ‘Our Money, Our Rights’ means to be able to select from a range of products and services, offered at competitive prices with assurance of satisfactory quality.
World consumer rights day was first observed on March 15 in 1983.
