If all goes well, water scarcity could be a thing of the past for Nyaskhar village in Pema Gatshel. The village was connected with a drinking water source in 2008 but it dried up and could not cater to the people’s need. To solve the issue, a new water source has been discovered and water supply connection works are ongoing.
The new reservoir is being filled with water from the new water source which has a water pump inside. The new water source is located about 10 minutes away and is located below the village.
Until now, the villagers said they didn’t have sufficient drinking water.
“In the past, we don’t have electricity, road and water. But now thanks to the government, finally we have everything. It seems we will even have sufficient drinking water,” said Dorji Gyeltshen, a resident.
“The water from the old source was not enough for everyone. We are happy with this initiative,” said Chorten Dupchu, another resident.
However, the water distribution will be carried out through the existing pipeline. And works to connect it will begin after the LG elections are over.
“Today, we have not started the water distribution. We have water supply from another source. Now we are going to connect this water through that pipeline. Only some maintenance works are left for now,” said Dorji Gyeltshen.
The construction of the water pump was completed in October at a cost of more than Nu 900,000.
More than 200 people will benefit from the project.
