To ease congestion and enhance healthcare services at Trashigang Hospital, there are plans to expand it in the current Five-Year-Plan. The expansion of the hospital’s services will include a new operation theatre, intensive care unit, dialysis unit and emergency unit. Every day, around 200 patients visit the hospital.
Trashigang’s two-storeyed hospital was constructed around two decades ago.
However, with a growing number of patients and limited space, the hospital is becoming increasingly crowded.
Patients from 15 Gewogs of Trashigang, referral cases from Trashi Yangtse, Pema Gatshel and a few Gewogs of Monggar visit the hospital. It was identified as a cluster hospital in 2021.
Chimi Wangmo from Pam village said “Because of limited space in the hospital, there are chances of contracting infectious diseases. The hospital has put in preventive measures such as the need to wear face masks, but to benefit the people it will always be better to have enough space.”
Sonam Dorji, Thromde Thuemi of Trashigang Town said “The hospital does not have much space and the patients keep on increasing yearly.”
Local leaders raised the issue during the recent Dzongkhag Tshogdu session.
Duptho, Chairperson of Trashigang Dzongkhag Tshogdu said “The Dzongkhag Tshogdu members have been requesting for the expansion of the hospital.”
The Chief Medical Officer of Trashigang Hospital said that the health ministry has allocated Nu 350 M for the expansion of the hospital in the current Five-Year-Plan.
He added that the construction will start in the next financial year.
However, the Dzongkhag Tshogdu decided to write to health ministry, requesting to expedite the construction without any delay.
