A new Secretary General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, SAARC, has been appointed. Ahmed Saleem of Maldives is the 11th Secretary General of SAARC and succeeds Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed, also from Maldives.
Saleem joined the Maldivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1968 and served for over 26 years. He served at the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka and the Permanent Mission of Maldives in New York. He also served as the Maldivian Government’s first Alternative Governor for the World Bank, IDA and ADB
The members of SAARC are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
