The Member of Parliament from Nanong-Shumar Constituency in Pema Gatshel, Dechen Zangmo formally joined the office today. The oath or affirmation of office was administered by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Representing her constituency Dechen Zangmo, 30, will attend her fist parliamentary session beginning tomorrow. Dechen Zangmo has a bachelor’s degree in English from Cluny women’s college in Kalimpong, India.
Prior to joining politics, she was a business entrepreneur. She replaced the former member of parliament of Nanong-Shumar Constituency Jigmi Y Thinley.
The bye-election was called for after the Nanong-Shumar representative and former Prime Minister, Jigmi Y Thinley resigned in August, last year.
