The National Assembly today passed the Parliamentary Entitlement Amendment Bill 2014. The MPs will now get salary equivalent to the constitutional post holders. The Speaker shall draw slightly higher salary than the Opposition Leader and the National Council Chairperson for his/her additional responsibility.
A MP shall be provided with a lump sum amount of Nu. one million to purchase a vehicle, free of customs duty, sales tax and other government levies in the beginning of his/her term.
A member of parliament is also entitled for a house rent allowance of 30 percent of its basic pay, a lump sum mobile allowance of Nu. 5,000, monthly telephone charges of Nu. 2,000, a monthly driver’s allowance of Nu. 8,505, a monthly fuel allowance of Nu. 8,000, a monthly vehicle maintenance allowance of Nu. 7,000 and a discretionary allowance of Nu. 100,000 among others.
