Darkar Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang lost more than 300 acres of forest to a fire which started at around 11.30 am yesterday. Police, forest officials, gewog volunteers and staff from PHPA I & II are still battling the fire.
Forest officials say their work is made harder by dried shrubs and heavy wind in the area. The fire is still spreading uncontrollably.
However, forest official says there are no casualties or damages to private properties so far. The cause of the fire accident is yet to be known.
